Behind the artwork — "Tessellate I–VII"
By Owain Tessellate · 24 March 2026
The sleeve of "Tessellate I–VII" is — like the music — built from a single seven-sided tile. Each of the seven panels of the gatefold has a different rotation of the tile cut from it; if you stack the sleeves on top of one another in the right order, the seven cuts line up to make a single, larger tile. I designed the tile in 2019, on a long train journey from Cardiff to Inverness. The original sketch is reproduced on the inner sleeve. I am told that if you photograph the assembled stack of sleeves and then rotate the photograph through forty-five degrees, the tile becomes a face. I have not yet been able to confirm this.
